Layer styles

To create a map, one has to style the GIS data and present it in a form that is visually informative. Here we present some basics of styling.

When you create a new layer you can define how layer will be drawn on the map. Controls for defining a layer's style are found in the New layer window.

symbol style

Style controls are specific to the data type of the layer, which are:

  • Point and Multi-Points geometry, to which you can assign symbol style.
  • Line and Multi-Lines geometry, to which you can assign line style.
  • To Polygon and Multi-Polygons geometry, to which you can assign line and fill style.

Symbol style

Symbol style specification provides you with options for stylizing a point layer:

  1. The Symbol field allows you to choose an appropriate shape for a point or multi-points layer
  2. The Color field allows you to change the points main color.
  3. The Size field allows you to determine the size of the point.
  4. The Rotation field allows you to rotate the point from 0 to 360 degrees.
  5. The Opacity field allows yout to set the transparency value.

Line style

Line style specification provides you with options for stylizing a line or polygon border:

  1. The Style field allows you to choose an appropriate line style (solid, dots, dashes, ...)
  2. The Color field allows you to change the lines main color.
  3. The Width field allows you to determine the width of the line.
  4. The Opacity field allows yout to set the transparency value.
  5. The Join type field allows you to determine how lines are joined
  6. The Cap type field allows you to determine how line is capped

line style

Fill style

Fill style specification provides you with options for stylizing a polygon fill.

  1. The Fill background field allows you to change the polygons main background color.
  2. The Opacity field allows yout to set the transparency value.
  3. The Style field allows you to determine the hatching pattern
  4. The Fill foreground field allows you to change the polygons foreground color.
